In this weekends ‘Kent on Sunday’ newspaper, there is an interview with a chap who worked on the
firing mechanism of the UK’s first Atom bombs. They were ‘designed’ and built at Fort Halstead, Kent and fitted into normal bomb cases. They were taken to Farnborough and loaded onto a Wellington bomber flown by a crew from the Empire Test Pilots School. The trials were dropped into the sea on the Aberporth ranges. He says the whole thing was done on a shoestring. Well things were still rationed then. 😎

I would presume that the testing was really NOT documented.

I wonder if any pictures survive? You would assume that the testing was well documented.
