On 30th August PA474 flew over NX611 as she taxied on the grass strip. Did anyone visiting that day get a good photo that we can use at the Centre?

Huw or any photo shop magicians.
Could you show me what you are talking about, as i cannot see how from the photo provided which has been scanned in as it was in a newspaper, how you can see the pixel differences its got me baffled.Huw, have you actually put this photo into photoshop already.”Equalizing the image in Photoshop makes this even more ovbious.” but if this is a scanned photo out of a newspaper it will not be at its best anyway.
If we’re talking about the same photo (the first one in this thread) then it isn’t a scan from a newspaper. The resolution of newspaper printing isn’t all that high, so when you try scan them even with a low resolution scanner you get massive moiré effects where the scanner gets confused by the patterns in the blobs of ink and can’t resolve the detail clearly, and not only that, it has full EXIF data. The name embedded in the EXIF is Colin Smedley, using a Canon 20D on the 30th August 2010 at 13:50 (assuming all that’s set correctly) and edited using Photoshop CS5. Huw points out the colour cast around the aircraft which is odd but the most strange thing to me is the dramatic difference in contrast between the aircraft in the air and the rest of the scene. It just looks too light. If the camera has metered for the scene on the ground (which is darker than the sky) then it will naturally lead to the sky being a little on the bright side and thus the aircraft in the air lacking dark tones, but there’s absolutely no lack of contrast in the clouds; they’re perfect, so it’s a little difficult to understand why an object in the air that’s dark actually appears lighter than the clouds around it.
I won’t say it’s 100% faked but there’s something odd going on!
Paul
P.S. If you’re reading this, Colin, you need to change your camera and editing software colour spaces to sRGB, not Adobe RGB! 😉

I am also going to ask the photographer for the full High res photo which i should get early next week.
I look forward to your reply.

Firstly, it isnt a scan from a newspaper. Yes, I’ve run it through Photoshop and it hilights the strange shade of the cloud around the BBMF Lancaster that looks as though it has been lifted from a different photograph. The contrast, size and height of the BBMF Lancaster doesnt fit the rest of the image either. Also the other video footage or photographs I’ve seen don’t show this particular pass.

PA474 made several passes from both directions.
By: Onthecrowdline - 10th September 2010 at 20:25
From which direction did PA474 do it’s flypast? In the disputed image she is approaching from NX611s right hand side. In the accepted image she seems to have approached from the left.

Actually, there is plenty of evidence that Photoshop has been used to create the image. If you look around the BBMF Lancaster you will see the pixels surrounding it do not match the clouds behind it. Equalizing the image in Photoshop makes this even more ovbious. I can enjoy the real photos from the event much better because they are, real.
A faked picture isnt the closest we have, there are photographs from the event that havn’t been photoshopped such as the second one in this thread.

As i was in the cockpit of Just Jane at the time the photo was taken i can guarantee the photo is not a fake.
There is no photoshop in site so please enjoy the photo for what it is. REAL.

Cheeky Mare! no wonder people stop posting news sometimes.. I think it is a fantastic picture and for now, is the closest we can see two operational lancs together in the same place! Well done to East Kirkby and BBMF for arranging this.;)

Don’t know if it is or not, but it really does look fake I’m afraid!

The lighting, angle, size, height and the different shade of sky around the BBMF Lanc. Photoshop hasn’t made people cynical, its just easier to see flaws in techniques such as this.

Just curious, but why do you think it’s fake? It’s a little small to judge, but I don’t see any typical tell tale signs, and judging by the other shot, it’s pretty reasonable to accept that the lanc did come from the direction indicated. It is a remarkable shot of course, but not as good as it could have been had someone made a serious attempt at faking it… why put the other lanc so far away for one. Just my take on things of course. Photoshop has tended to make us all a little cynical of what we see these days. Either way, it looks like a good representation of the day.
Cheers,
Richard
