Hi All,
We are often getting asked about any recent developments with Avro Lancaster NX611 ‘Just Jane’ so i’ve set up a page on the website dedicated to keeping up to date with the restoration and parts collection.

Hi All,
Mr Merry and MikeJ,
You are of coarse quite correct I had obviously clicked a link thinking it was a new discovery but I was incorrect but still was an amazing amount of surplus Packard/Merlin stock just the same, your friend Ken has replied and gave the info about the acquisition and the Spitfire is on an when time allows to be restored basis.

The work being done to NX611 is all in the process to making her airworthy. It’s piece by piece and the paperwork is ongoing. When the parts come off for the paint strip and airframe inspection/overhaul they can just go on the shelf to be refitted rather than having to be overhauled in that period. It saves ‘down time’ for the aircraft.

Seems odd that they’re putting a lot of flight worthy parts on only to have to take them off again during its restoration.

Hi All,
Mike J,
I was thinking in terms of being used up or bought with X amount of spares by their customers ? 😮
Geoff.
By: Mike J - 20th November 2014 at 19:24
No, it is a restoration shop, so the stock is there to supply parts as they overhaul engines for customers

Hi All,
Mike J,
Can I assume that nearly all this inventory would have by now found a good home ? if it is the same cache ?
Geoff.

The thing that impressed me was the rows of grey containers, stacked three high, each one containing a Merlin core

Hi All,
Mr Merry,
Looks to be correct many thanks for your help.:applause:
Mike J,
I couldn’t remember the proper story behind it but it looks about right, although a few different pictures so Like I said probably missed the boat having said that I have e-mailed for some clarification for my own sanity a right berk I am :stupid:
Geoff.
By: Mr Merry - 20th November 2014 at 18:12
I bet it was fascinating, I’d be like a kid in a sweet shop.
By: Mike J - 20th November 2014 at 18:02
Unlikely, as Ken purchased his stock from another Merlin restorer who was exiting the business. It certainly wasn’t a ‘barn find’. A fascinating place though, he gave me the grand tour when I visited a few years back.
By: Mr Merry - 20th November 2014 at 17:24
Geoff, do you mean this place?
By: Mike J - 20th November 2014 at 16:51
It certainly doesn’t ring any bells with me
By: 1batfastard - 20th November 2014 at 16:45
Hi All,
MikeJ,
I cant find the story now I must have come across it while looking for something else, I remember the outlines of Some company taking over a defunct company then discovering tons (Literally) of brand new parts for Packard/Merlin engines + a whole load of engines in shipping cartons some looked plastic ? but there was a good number, I will of coarse keep searching I just assumed everybody was aware of the find and I had missed the boat as usual ? unless it was an old story.:apologetic:

No its RAF Cheddington
By: Oxcart - 19th November 2014 at 12:08
Matthew and Amy Grinstead of Lymn Bank Farm presented a cheque from the first years proceeds for £1,552.47 all of which will go toward the continued restoration of Avro Lancaster NX611 ‘Just Jane’. The sales of the cheese is equivalent to 2.5 tonnes of cheese!
Is it E-Dam?
By: Trolly Aux - 19th November 2014 at 10:26
Can I make a suggestion to the team.
All the parts that will not be being used in the rebuild to fly could be at some point used in an onsite auction to raise funds, IE the fillets etc that will not be returning to the aeroplane for flight, I do not mean a willy nilly ebay auction I mean a full blown on site auction house style auction towards the end of the rebuild,
What does anyone else think?
And great work going on there chaps n chapesses, cannot wait for the air to get beneath the wheels

Hi All,
With recent cache of P-51 Merlin/Packard’s being unearthed in America….
Tell us more. I’ve not heard about this one.
By: Oxcart - 18th November 2014 at 20:05
I can’t open the download!! Can anyone help??
By: 1batfastard - 18th November 2014 at 19:51
Hi All,
With recent cache of P-51 Merlin/Packard’s being unearthed in America could any of these be used as a backup spare for the project or indeed any present and future airworthy Lancaster restorations ? Or are they just not the same type of Merlin/Packard rather than RR built being a more powerful Mk used on the Lancaster bombers ?
Anyway excellent news and congratulations from the lowest to the highest member who are bring NX611 back to the air.:applause:
Geoff.
