NX611 to the air!!!

Now that Lancaster NX611 has been restored to a Taxiable condition, are there any plans long or short term to restore this airframe to an airworthy state? Is it possible to restore her to airworthiness I would love to see at an airshow PA474 and NX611 fly in formation
Maybe a Fund could be set up similar to Vulcan XH558 or money from the lotterycould be donated to help get this machine back where she belongs in the air

i would like to see a HP42 flying, i think it would be very interesting to see? could be possible to get sponsership from an airline?

but i would prefer to see a airworthy Stirling or Whitney repro flying! And there is always a airworthy Halifax or Liberator?

i heard somewhere that someone was building a westland wallace repro im the UK? is this true?

But if anyone had to make a repro i would say build a mossie!

Why should her status change? In which case, debate becomes rather pointless, don’t you think?

As for replicas, I heard a conservative number bandied about for the cost of a potential HP42 flier a couple of years ago. Made me wince, but then I’m not in a position to commission one. It’s do-able, but as with all thing aviation, you’d need very deep pockets. In the meantime, as JDK says, let’s concentrate on saving what we’ve got now.

Hi Topgun,
Interesting point. Assuming we are talking flying replicas, the biggest replica built to date is the Vickers Vimy 1994 which flew to Australia in 1994. (For pedant points, it’s bigger than the Vickers Vimy replica built at Weybridge and now in the RAF Museum because of the new wingtip lights or something…)

Non flying replicas would be the Halifax replica in Yorkshire. A 4 engined bomber replica built to fly… Well, it could be done, but the cost isn’t just like 4 Spitfires – the cost and operational complexity is an exponential level higher. Still we can dream. Short Sarafand anyone?

There is a proposal for a replica dH 86 which would be very nice, and also another proposal for a Handley Page HP42 Heracles – now that WOULD be worth seeing. Let’s just save the Beverley in the meantime eh?
Cheers

NX611 to the air

Sorry for causing a panic but I’m new to this forum. I like the thread about the replicas, I just wish someone could take such a challenging build as a ‘Heavy’ not necessarily a Lanc, how about a Halifax or a Wimpey? I think there are enough Fighters around why not try something a little bigger guys!

Hi
My opinion , fly replicas, keep the originals on the ground,
imagine if it crashed !!
a sad day if it ever flies, stick to the engine runs/taxy
Cheers
Jerry
