NZ Corsair home !

On the evening news tonight , the OFMC Corsair undertook its first air test out of Hobsonville , Auckland , after arriving by ship ten days ago. Pilot Keith Skilling indicating it would most likely be staying here , it left these shores in 1971 , so it has been a long time returning to roost 😉

I guess they (RNZAF, USN F4Us )both fought in similar theatres, so why bother repainting…

Thecolours were remainng the same, the only change was to paint NZ roundels over the stars. Which is supposedly how it was done originally.

I got an email back from Gavin Johnston (organiser of Warbirds Over Wanaka)

He said it is locked up in Hobsonville (North Island RNZAF Base)and flys to Wanaka next Wednesday.

AFAIK, Neal its staying in the RNZAF Pacific scheme

Hope this helps

Cheers

Are they gonna repaint it in RNZAF colours, I prefered those to the US Navy ones.

Where are they basing the Corsair? All my family are in New Zealand, so they would love to pop and see her.

I’ll find out for you if you like.

I’m quite envious – although I’ve only seen it for the last couple of years of Duxford, I will miss this aircraft at the 2004 shows.

Enjoy !!
