Oasis Break-up

Just heard on the news that Noel Gallagher announced the end of Oasis. I hope it’s a hoax. I’ve never seen them live, but they’re a great band. Why can’t they get their act together?

“MOST” people are NOT in the least bit interested . :(:(

Yes, I have gathered that by now. I, for one, am one of the few that is. But apart from that: MOST people don’t have brains.

As you are from the ‘pool, (Maybe you like the Beatles…I dunno) have you listened to the remastered Beatles albums?

No doubt saying the Gallaghers are a pair of idiots isn’t too far fetched. They are big-mouthed, too big for their boots and their behaviour in public is a disgrace. But apart from all that some of their music is the best we’ve heard in the past two decades. “Sunday Morning Call” ranks within the top-five of my all time favourites. It is interesting to see that some folks here transfer their dislike towards the Gallaghers also to their music – if you don’t like the artist then you don’t like the music either. I wonder what it would be like if they had been “Good Boys” (like Coldplay perhaps)? The general opinian about Oasis AND consequently their music might be very different.

I thought they already had broken up.

All we heard on this side of the Atlantic were stories about fights and breakups…

So this is hardly life altering news….

Having said that, I did like their video with the Army Lynx helicopters…
What is the name of the song so I look it up on youtube?

Their first album back in ’94 was a classic of it’s time, much in a similar vein to Never Mind The B*ollocks by Sex Pistols. Their second album had some moments but everything since smacks of egotism, arrogance and a small band with too much success. I miss Oasis ‘1994’ but won’t miss the pantomime they became.

For all the fact that I don’t appreciate their music I grant you thay had a modicum of talent between them.

They didn’t claim to be bigger than the Beatles, they always claimed the Beatles were the best band EVER and they blatently admitted copying their style because of that.

As I said above, download “The Dreams we have as children” by Noel. It was free in the Sunday papers so downloading won’t upset the music industry.
It is a fantastic acoustic album, showing the talent of Noel G.

Maybe I’ll eventually feel the same about them as I did the Beatles, I only appreciated them after they split up, though somehow I doubt it.

Yes Steve, that’s the ones. Personally I consider their breaking up no loss to the music industry. Not before time as far as I’m concerned

Can’t please everyone, I guess. However, listening to “Go Let It Out”, “Sunday Morning Call”, “Stop Crying Your Heart Out”, “Songbird”, “The Importance of Being Idle”, “I’m Outta Time”, “Falling Down” and many more comes like a blast of fresh air compaired with that casted crap we have to listen to on the radio most of the time. Yes, they did sound a bit like the Beatles (and that was intentional), and they did a good job of it.

IMO most bands lose their edge once there is food in their belly. U2 never bettered the early 2 albums for example. As for Oasis, I’ve been a long time fan and they were sliding for some time. They bounced back with Dig Up your Soul, but that raw edge has gone.
Noel is the better writer amd singist, his charity album (With Paul Wella as guest) is a superb testiment to his acoustic talent with the geetar and the singing. It was a free album with the Sunday Times IIRC, so don’t feel guilty about downloading it from a torrent site.

Its strange but It seems brothers in a band are a bad idea. Whats happening to Oasis is very much the same as what Happened to The Kinks when Ray and Dave Davies had issues with each other. This went through the bands whole career and is still mentioned at least by Ray in interviews.

It must stem from sibling rivalry which often is both the creative strength of the band but the destructive influence also, It burns until a point where is eventually takes over.

In this case of Oasis Liam is a very good front man, But Noel is the better songwriter both wanting the limelight eventually something has to give Noel was that something.

I would say at some point Oasis will play together again and in the meantime expect Liam and Noel to do some solo stuff that will be far less successful.

Why can’t they get their act together?

Because they’re a band and bands are crap at doing that! 😀

Well… Some bands are. They’ve been at it for a fair old while now and probably feel they’ve taken it as far as they can. Bands come and go. It’s just kind of how it is. 🙂
