Shame because they were the only airline to really make an effort to get to know those that have an interest in aviation other than just paying passengers.
Bit I don’t understand is why lo co long hauls go bust but the short hauls tend to survive (ish).
OK a fuel increase hits a lo co as a % of earnings higher than a premium airline. But if your load factors are OK then it shouldn’t matter whether you are short or long haul. Or do you pay more per mile per seat on a short haul and hence more profit, even for a lo co?

No reason has been citied for this failure

I think this part in the first post answers that:cool:

long haul lo-co

I can´t see how a low cost long haul, with all that comes with it, can survive. Many have tried, so far all have failed. Not just in todays climate, but in years gone by.

I used to work for the handling agent for OASiS Hong Kong at LGW, and I felt it was one of the best airlines we handled, and from a start-up perspective it is very sad to hear of this news.

Here is the statement that is currently posted on their website:

9 April 2008 – 2050h HKG time

It is with regret that Oasis Hong Kong Airlines announces that the airline has this morning applied to the Hong Kong Court to appoint a provisional liquidator. The Court has appointed Edward Middleton and Patrick Cowley of KPMG as the provisional liquidators, and they have assumed control of the airline with effect from 1400h HKG time today.

Our flight operations have been cancelled until further notice. The Provisional Liquidators are liaising with other airlines in order to help customers make alternate travel arrangements as quickly as possible.

Passengers with bookings are being advised to contact other airlines that fly the routes that they use to serve…”however, passengers should note that, owing to the airline’s current situation, they will need to meet the cost of these alternate flight arrangements themselves.”

No reason has been citied for this failure, anyone able to tell us anything about it, was it because it simply ran out of money or is it because of the global credit crunch and resulting high oil prices?

MAN is really dissappointed. Oasis were going to begin flights to the airport in July. Their management team had visited the airport just a few weeks ago, had agreed slots and a terminal of operation at MAN. We were mere millimetres from regaining a Hong Kong service.

This is really sad!
Another airline that hardly anyone complains about, bites the dust.
Shall really miss seeing that one at LGW!

A friend of ours works for the Handling Agent that handled them,he said they were a really friendly Airline to deal with, and the crews etc were lovely-said they are sorry to lose that one(he said the Aircraft were good too!)

More sad news , brave venture that deserved to succeed. Last passenger flight from UK is already in HK. The final flight HK to UK landed at LGW this morning…..but the frame probably won’t be going anywhere for a little bit.
