Odd Car Problems

I stupidly told an elderly lady friend that I would get an MOT for her car (2000 Pug 306 HDI est)
I had asked her to give me 1 months notice to give me time to sort it – she lives in dorset but spends much of her time looking after her daughters rugrats near Fareham – I live in sunny sussex but work at an airfield near Amesbury so the distance added to the fun.

Anyway – I got 2 days notice LOL

So I pick it up from Fareham – it has eng management light on and cuts out dead on me on the M27 (but better there than windey bendy back road I was going to use :D)
Eventually got a restart and drove to work – I just plonked it in for MOT to see how bad it was – failed on insecure headlights, emissions, rear brakes cr@p – so not too bad.
I serviced the car (air and oil filters etc),cleaned up the back brakes and fitted new pads, got a pair of headlight units from a scrapper for 30squid and got the mot done ok 😎

Meanwhile I had got a mate to read the fault code which pointed to a fuel system problem (He had reset the eng light + airbag light) and after talking to one of our guys who is knowledgeable about cars decided it was likely to be related to the Fuel Tank Pump – I managed to chat to the previous owner who said he had cleaned up a corroded tank pump plug some years before – so I had relaxed about the EM light and had concentrated on the MOT !

MOT done I looked at the fuel tank pump plug and found this LOL

None of my friends has ever seen anything like it 😀
The plug is so badly burnt that 2 of the connectors must occasionally arc – hence the EM light and dead cut !

Forgot to say – I got a ‘new’ plug c/w wiring from a scrappy for £3 and spliced it into the car loom,I also got a new tank pump unit from Eurocartarts for 88squid (spec offer LOL) just in case the pump was kernackered and drawing high current.

It is actually a lovely car to drive – comfy (half leather),fast (enough),great brakes and v economical !
I had bought it for her the year previously for £450 …..bargain 😀
