I just watched an episode of Airline USA (feat. Southwest).
On one of their B737s a group were sat over the exit row had 3 seats facing backward and 3 facing forward (hence facing each other).
I was surprised as the footage seemed very new (i.e. post 2001) but i thought airlines had done away with this a while ago??
I remember an episode of BBC Airport were Jeremy Spake too to the skies to see the eclipse and was sat in a similar fashion by an emergency exit?
Can anyone enlighten me if this is a normal southwest seating plan? The seating plans i could find online dont give direction or list them as forward facing.

SWA do have a row of seats that face backwards, but they are only in their Classic 737’s i believe. In a Magazine on SWA, it said that they don’t have them on the 73G for comfort reasons 🙁
bmi-star is indeed correct, except that the “club” seating is not even installed on all of their classics now – just some of them.

Some of the old 732’s operated by Alliance Air in india still feature that configuration.

I’m pretty certain that the Jeremy Spake flight was on a BAC 1-11
Yer. I love that episode 😀 Lol.

Not sure about Southwest 737’s, but I think most ATR’s and Dash 8’s have rear facing seats on the first row beside one of the emergency exits.
Maybe someone can confirm?
