Look at the side area on that thing and imagine what it must be like in a crosswind. I would say that it was making a pretty perfect crosswind landing using the wing down technique.

I should imagine the handling characteristics would be totally different to the Airbus airframe from which it was derived

Whats a DU optical test? Thats not where they blank out all the instruments and you have to fly it on your insticnts is it?
