OFF TOPIC: REQ Camera Advice

Hi guys,

Appologies for the off topic nature of this thread.

After viewing many great photo’s in this forum, i guess there are a few regulars who really know a thing or two about cameras.

I have a Canon PowerShot A80, 4 mega pixel digital camera. It has a 3x optical lens at 7.8-23.4 mm, with a further 8x digital.

I want to purchase an aditional lens as the 3x optical is not good enough, and digital zoom just makes shots above 3x zoom blurry.

I would like advice on what sort of lens would be best as i truly no nothing about the topic.

Feel free to PM me if you want to stop this post bouncing.

Hi James,

How is sunny Manston?

Although i live north of Manchester now, i lived and worked in Margate for a few years and used to fly PA28’s with TG Aviation.

PAR Recovery 10 mile out to sea by the RAF controllers, to be vectored at the last moment to make way for an An124 or a pair of German Tornado’s.

Those were the days.

I fear that your camera may not be suitable for aviation photography. Even the best of extra lenses will only increase your zoom 3x or so for a camera like yoursI’ve seen one on eBay for 70 USD (~50 GBP). This would give your camera a 70mm lense. At most airports this will not cut it unless you have ramp access.

Instead of going for a new lense I’d go for a “new” (2nd hand) camera. I’ve used a Sony F717 before I got my current camera. They can be had from eBay for as little as 350 USD (~200 GBP). Still a good amount of money, but in my opinion money better spend then on a new lense for your current camera.

Probably not the answer you where hoping for. Sorry for that.
