OFMC Heinkel?

I have been going back through some old issues of Classic Wings magazine today, and in Vol 2 No 2, April-June 1995, it says the OFMC had just bought a Spanish CASA 2.111 (or Heinkel 111) from Spain which they planned to restore. Is this still in their possession? Are they getting it flying?

It’s possible.

A step in the same direction (in a sense) is that the Tempest TT at the RAF Museum is in it’s secondary / tertiary colours…

I think that once restored, the ‘Luftwaffe’ angle for visitors and an authentic finish for the enthusiasts could be satisfied if their CASA was displayed in ‘Battle of Britain’ film markings.

Thoughts?

A couple of pictures showing Aces High’s CASA in July 1995, North Weald. One person was working on some parts (wheelwell doors, IIRC) during our visit.

You mean this one?

The only Commonwealth a/c in non RAF roundels planned for AirSpace?

Pretty much right I would think. I think the implication was “stars and bars” and the “hakenkreuz” are off the agenda for a bit. Have you seen the CF-100 since it was finished. Really good but it is a roundel, albeit an RCAF version.

Hi Ozplane,
Thanks – interesting.

But a slight tweak if I may? Sounds like an ‘interpretation’ in part. Anything for the AirSpace development – British & Commonwealth aviation is top of the priority pile, I’d say. And reasonable too, after the other ‘pushes’ to get stuff ready for the AAM, Battle of Britain etc. Rather than ‘RAF Roundels’ which implies an unreasonable bias.

Sound correct?

Just to get back to the IWM CASA/Heinkel, my contact confirmed my earlier guess and his comment was that the priority was for anything with an RAF roundel on it. Thus the 1-11 is fairly low on the list. The other comment was that current Duxford policy is not to do “recreations” so you won’t see Jumos on it but one possibility is to restore it to B 0f B film status. Hope this helps.

He and a bunch of mates shot it down over Texas, and it crashed in England. Clever eh?

Oh that is scary. So do I. From about 11 years ago – almost to the day.

Don’t think so, so you’re quite safe, JDK 😉

However, if someone chooses to get a Heinkel airworthy in the near future, then I cannot wait to see the results.

Then of course there’s Glenn Lacey’s Stuka – or maybe that Russian chap with the 3/4 scale one. A replica is better than nothing! 😀

Thanks for that CM.

Interesting that there are NO Axis bombers or derivitives flying anywhere in the world, IIRC.

Sits back & awaits correction! 😀

Old Fart,

I had a nice talk with a well know Warbird Mag. editor and as far as we can tell the CAF has not bought the Ace High aircraft. He thinks this is with Paul Allen, he has two the old Jean-Salias and another beleive to be Ace High plane.

As for the fable Spanish 111 with FHC I very much dought it, something like this would not escape the sniffers here in the States. Besides their are a few people up in the Seattle area who have been watching the collection.

I should know something by the beginning of the week on the CAF.

I must admit to wondering why the windows have never been clear and just blanked in?
