OK, a friend tipped me off to this site…http://www.planeboats.com. ….interesting stuff. …a Boeing 307 airliner fuselage turned into a boat….they actually were gonna use it in the Howard Hughes movie with Leo DiCaprio until the movie ran too long (Hughes used to own the plane!)….now it does pleasure cruises around Florida, my friend (D1ck Phillips) took the helm for a few hours!! It retains its original executive interior (very nice!)….it was recently on e-bay for 9 million….rumor is Kermit Weeks wants it for his lake at the museum, but I reckon he’s not nuts enough to shell out 9 mil for the thing….

Um…as far as the use of the plane as a boat….I can understand the problems some folks would have with this…but at least it HAS retained it’s original look and interior (enough to be used in the ‘Aviator’ movie, even if the footage wound up on the cutting room floor…) I guess it comes down to whether the parts existed to restore it as a PLANE when the guy turned it into a boat…but then it was his money he spent so I guess he gets to make the choice on what he does with it..

Well,…with only 10 Boeing 307’s made I think it’s sacrilige to do that to such a beautiful aircraft, 🙁

Whilst chopping the wings off a nice old aeroplane always seems a shame, I have to concede that that is possibly the most brilliant thing I have ever seen….. I wonder if an old L118 Electra fuselage could fit through the bridges on the Coventry canal 😀
