The RE8 And Albatros are on the list for the Shuttleworth Autumn Show.
Plus the DH88.
Can’t wait.

SWMBO and I have our tickets, really looking forward to it!
Hoping that Harry and the Albatross will be out on the flightline by tour time as I really fancy taking some shots of them with my 1911 Kodak (might have to check the flm stocks first, mind!).
Anyone fancy meeting up there?
Adrian
PS Yes, the Petrel is quite gorgeous!

I once cut a hole in the Petrel fuselage with a screw driver, as I didnt have a chisel. That was when Mike Russell owned it. My father had just failed its CofA due to rusty control cables. We needed a better look inside. A repair and it was as good as new.

If the weather had a conscience, it would shine with glorious sun on Shuttleworth for this show (given how much of Shuttleworth’s earlier shows the weather ruined this season!)
Thanks for clarifying the Petrel. I’m not hot on gliders, but that very much is a beauty!

Sadly, I’ve not been to the Shuttleworth for years. I used to go regularly with my Dad in the 70’s and 80’s and I went once in 2007. I will introduce my wife and daughter to airshows with this one, as avaition was a big hobby before it became my career. I’ll keep everything crossed for conditions that will allow the Boxkite to fly, the Comet to be serviceable and the sun to shine….

I can only echo what Sq/L said.
One thing though, and I admit to not knowing my prewar gliders, is the Petrel in anyway related to the German Göppingen Minimoa?? They seem to have similar lines.
Apart from the gull wing the Petrel is not related to the Minimoa. The Slingsby Petrel is related to the German Rhoenadler. Frank Charles the speedway rider asked Fred Slingsby to build him an improved version of the Rhoenadler. The Rhoenadler did not have a gull wing. Frank Charles was killed in 1939 in the first Petrel when the winch cable failed to release. Causing the glider to dive into the ground. Two other petrel where built both still survive on is in the USA, the other is based at Booker Uk.

Stu flew the Albatros out of Duxford just after doors opened this morning.

…and who will be piloting the R.E.8 and Albatros – presumably Kermit and Gene have now left for home ?
Kermit has indeed gone home, but Stu Goldspink is qualified to fly the Albatros. I believe Gene is heading into Europe and will hopefully return to fly the RE8 (Stu is not qualified to fly it, or indeed any of The Collection pilots). If the weather permits. the RE8 and Albatros are due to fly out of Duxford today (if they haven’t already). Otherwise, the RE8 may well get stuck there for a week or so until Gene is back – or of course a container to Hendon.
We have a a special mounted print available in The Shuttleworth shop of the Re8 and Albatros air-to-air. There’s a limited number, so if you want one, get into the shop early!
The Comet – keep you fingers crossed, but it may or may not happen.
It would be great to get a large crowd to support Shuttleworth Uncovered>

Two pilots from the Shuttleworth Collection would be my choice! It would be interesting to know how many flying hours a WW1 pilot would be required to have before being judged competent to fly either type!

What, in this context, is a “Petrel”? (See participants list)

I’m assuming it isn’t the totally un-heralded airshow debut of the Q.6 G-AFFD…?

Spoke to a volunteer at the previous OW show and was told there is no chance of the DH88 flying this year as there is problem with It’s undercarriage hinges

Shuttleworth AND early jets. I think that might tempt me to attend this one :). Be interesting to see if the F-86 Sabre makes it, as of last Friday at Dx it had the rear fuselage re-attached but they had forgotten to put the engine back in :D.
