Am considering repairing or renovating an oil temp gauge that i’ve found (with the correct precautions)
Problem is I’m having trouble identifying which aircraft it would have been used on. I assume its an instrument made in the US or Canada as there is no AM Stores ref on it. The only numbers on the face are No T/97912 and Pat No 171217
Wasn’t there a posting sometime ago relating to a US parts number manual showing the correspondence Air Ministry ref ?
Isn’t the temp reading too high for your standard RAF aircraft? (Spitfire, Hurricane etc)

It looks like a Mk ID oil temperature gauge, 6A/66. The only problem is that this reference number is for a luminous type (no non-luminous option is given).
Do you think this dial has been repainted?
It could of course be the commercial equivalent.

Interesting. I assumed, due to the high reading on the gauge, that it was a post war early jet item

That patent was issued to Negretti & Zambra for an improvement in bourdon tubes, in 1921.
