The Douglas C-54 Skymaster that lives at Archerfield near Brisbane has cancer. It is fixable if treated now and the owner wants her to fly again as a “warbird”…

Any ideas??? 😮

JDK,

so from your comment I assume the owner is looking for an investor/strategy to ermove structural corrosion, not simply a paint scheme to overcome surface corrosion on the bare metal??

If that is the case my best idea is that it looks like a good donation aircraft to the Longreach QANTAS Museum and display in their 1950’s colours as a Static, with a tax writeoff under the Cultural gift Program???

Oscar,

is the owner of simply colour scheme ideas? (ie is the corrosion simply surface due to the current bare metal condition?)

or

are you/he seeking a way to transfer operation of this aircraft from its existing freight/commercial status to some warbird/heritage status by some interested group? as the corrosion condition is ending its operational days and threatens its flying future ?

If its just a colour scheme, why limit it to military, why not leave the impressive polish finish and provide airline markings to cover either:

QANTAS
ANSETT
ANA
(ANA-ANSETT)
TAA
or
BPAC ?

all would get interest in local Australian airshow circuit?

The trouble is that most C54 schemes are a bit boring – nat metal/white or Olive Drab for the most part. How about Balak1 of the Iraeli airforce though? Or a USN R6D with large dayglo patches on the nose and tail?
