OK, question 2

How does a travel company (eg Thomson, First Choice) obtain its own airline? Is it the same procedure as starting an airline independantly? Do they lease the planes or buy them?

Thomson and First Choice are part of same company now (TUI Group).

Anyway Britannia Airways a charter airline were rebranded as Thomsonfly in 2005. They were both owned by the TUI Group.

Thomas Cook Airlines started as JMC Airlines which came about through a merger of Caledonian Airways and Flying Colours both charter airlines.

In essence they buy charter airlines.
