Ol munition found in Delaware (USA) with mustard gas

this was very recently in the news: 3 airmen from Dover AFB, Delaware, were called in to examine an old munition found in fill material dumped in a nearby driveway. It may have been an old WW1 artillery shell among masses of munitions back then disposed of at sea. It is believed to have apparently been dredged up for use in fill for driveways.

One shell went off, and it had old but good mustard gas in it… An airman went to the hospital in pretty blistered up and others got ill. I saw a photo but can’t find it now. Nasty stuff! Lucky airman! The article says it is not uncommon to find old grenades in driveways using this type fill.

Now that I read your comment, I recall my junior high school principal could not talk above a wisper. He was gassed in WW1.

If you breath in the stuff, there goes your lungs.

Bad yellow mustard made with heavy horse radish has the same effect. I once put too much of that stuff on a hot dog and it damn near killed me.
