I was sorting out my garage yesterday when to my surprise I found that I had kept loads of my old programmes, some of them duplicated. I really want to sort them all out properly, but I wasted enough time yesterday just leafing through them, what memories, especially seeing SR-71’s down for The Hall.
The oldest I have found so far is a 1973 prog for Tollerton, with lots of Air Race events. It’s very sad looking at the list of pilots and airframes that are no longer with us.
Does anyone else have such a pile, I remember my old man keeping all his progs from the BoB events in the 50’s and 60’s, I shall have a search round the house when I next go to see mother.
Some of what I considered gems were, Last Last Lightning Show, complete with a list of all Lightning airframes on the base, Coltishall 50th BoB show, Conningsby, some Air Fete gems and various DX, Malling, NW shows, I even found my original pass for the Scampton Reds 25th anniversary, I could sit in there for hours and go through them.

I still have a few relics of old IAT shows lurking here and there. This is a scan of my favourite, one from good old Greenham Common . I managed to get some of the aircrews to sign it.

I have some late 80’s early 90’s Finningly ones, and some late 70’s early 80’s Riat. I even have one from Teeside International Airshow (1983 or 4 I think….)
Ah the Teesside International Airshow,,,,,,,,,,,,,those were the days! I seem to remember the scheduled Dan Air flight arrival featuring high on the program.
Joking aside they did have some good shows, seem to remember the Black Knight T33, original Vintage Pair and the Rolls Royce MkXIV Spit being there from time to time. Its not all glum up north!

Delay in Scanning Programmes
For those of you who PM’d me regarding programmes, I apologise for the delay, however:-
1) It is quite a task to scan all these.
2) My first attempt ended with the computer crashing.
3) My second attempt failed as there proved to be a fault with the touch mouse, now temporarily rectified.
4) Have started up a new company, not working from home anymore and getting going is time consuming.
5) Just come back from holiday.
6) Now having to catch up with the work backlog.
I have the specific programmes all lined up ready to copy and am part the way through the Southend Museum brochure, it scans very well, don’t worry, I will find time to do it all, eventually.

You folks that have requested things, sorry, I’ve been busy with work, life, home, and dare I admit it, getting in first in the house with Harry Potter, etc, etc, I will do it, I promise, just be patient.
By the way, I don’t actually collect them, I just throw nothing away, how many of you are guilty of that.

I actually collect airshow programmes. Have about 300 so far. I thought I was the only one but obviously not!

I have two aged programmes from my schooldays that really started my love affair with aviation.
The first is from RAAF Mallala in Sep 1956 where the highlight for me was the Co-ordinated mock attack on a Lincoln by two Mustangs.
The second was Farnborough 1957, shortly after my arrival back in the UK, when my highlights were theEnglish Electric P.1B AND THE Saunders-Roe S-R.53.
Happy memories.

The guy who gave them to me is still around, very much alive though not exactly ‘kicking’ at 85! He visited the 1936 show with his father.
Reading through some of those programmes is really fascinating. Consider this quote from the 1937 Hendon Display programme:
‘One striking fact is that the speed and performance of the modern flying machine have made it increasingly difficult to stage any aerial display which can be seen effectively by any great gathering of people assembled on any particular spot. Anyone, for example, trying to stage with Hurricane fighters an item to be seen by people surrounding an aerodrome is confronted by the fact that these machines move through the air at so great a speed that they may be over the flying ground one minute and several miles away the next. it is much the same with the latest high-speed bombers. They, too, are here one moment and gone the next.’
This was a preamble for the discontinuation of the Hendon display after that year, most probably due to the preoccupation with the rearmament programme and the gathering of war clouds on the horizon. Notwithstanding all this, an Empire Air Day was held in 1938 and 1939, as I have programmes for both events.

Well, the thread heading does not seem to restrict the “Old Airshow Programmes” to British so… I was trying to find some of my pre-WWII British aero programmes and did not have much luck,,,yet. But I did come across this fairly rare one. This International Aviation Meet took place only one month after the very first major Intl. air meet, at Reims. This is programme for the First Johannisthal Meeting in Berlin, 26 September-3 Oktober 1909.
Very well done at 50 pages and pages with color (oops!-Colour 😉 ) and photos. Nice to see it in this condition after 98 years!

I wouldn’t want you to think these represented my true age 🙂 , but I am quite proud to be the custodian of these two pieces of Spitfire history.

Mr. Truman sir.
If it’s not too much trouble could you also send me a copy of the Southend Museum Brochure? It was probably the first Museum (let alone Air Museum) I ever went to. I remember a Me109 that I think was a replica and going inside the Beverly but very little else…Many Thanks,
John
I certainly will sir, please PM me your personal E-mail address, I hope you lot aren’t going to overwhelm me with requests.

RAFrochford:- I have a copy and have scanned the cover hoping to publish it on here, for some reason it keeps just going on and on without getting anywhere.
Old Fart:- you once requested a copy of an old Southend Museum Programme, I’ve found that, it’s from 1976, shall I scan it and E-mail it to you, again the thing seems to be taking an age to download on here.

Hi…
Would anyone have a spare copy of the 1983 Great Warbirds Air Display programme that they would be willing to sell??
I had a copy not that long back, but after several moves, I have a horrible feeling that I may have lost it. That show was special to me because it was the first airshow I went to. I would love to get a copy of the programme!
Regards;
Steve
I’m sure I found one, perhaps two on Sunday, I’ll dig it out, I can always scan it and send it to you, either via the Net or I could copy it and send it on. If I have a spare copy you can have it with pleasure, no fee required to you sir.

I regretfully have only kept IAT/RIAT and Farnborough show programmes over years, but would like to have any Biggin Hill Air Fair or RNAS Yeovilton show programmes between 1963-69 if anyone is disposing of these?
