It was great. I was in a musketeer and we flew in formation with the chipmunk and a pitts special 🙂
I did get a taxi ride in the chipmunk though 🙂

Thankyou kindly 🙂 I do my best to try and bring something different here to the usual stuff. 🙂
The beagle terrier was taken on my K800i mobile phone.
Yeah, that was the only angle I could get of the lightning!

Aw no problem. I’ve been flying from Cranfield since 2008 and have a few friends there so learnt about different spotting areas etc from them.
By the way, the Patriot aviation carpark is right next to two parking stands, the closest of which normally has my friends plane parked on it (G-AWFZ, Beeh19A Musketeer)

Wow 700 reg’s! Thats alot. I think the last PFA rally was in around 2001? I wish they still did that as i’d have a field day with the camera then. Mind you, Cranfield is still a busy airfield.

I forgot to mention also that G-LUXE, BAe 146 of FAAM (Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurements) is also based at Cranfield and kept in the IAE hangar, however, on the FAAM website they do list dates/times that they fly.

Yesterday Cranfield had a G250 doing certification testing for water ingestion. Sadly I didnt make it over there and apparently it maybe departing back to Israel today. I believe that the Falcon 7X also did water ingestion trials at Cranfield during certification a few years ago aswell.

Hey Tartan pics 🙂

Cranfield regularly gets private jets come in, normally to be handled by Patriot Aviation, but sometimes by IAE too. The odd one also ends up outside customs too. I’d say we probably average 2 or 3 private jets a week but I also heard netjets were thinking of moving their maintenance base to cranfield in the future too which would mean an increase in private birdies if it ever happens.

Some of the shots that were taken airside we were taken when I had been out flying.. however CS-DSA, G-RVNA and G-SCHI were all taken from a carpark by patriot aviation – theres no fence or anything, you could walk airside if you wanted but you’d end up prosecuted so as long as you dont cross on to the grass you’re fine.
The shot of the Lightning, Jetstream and Lansen were taken from the crash gate off of the roundabout by Traffic Master. Basically theres a small mound (I guess where they had dumped the mud when building traffic master) which allows you to be elevated higher than the fence.

When they use runway 03 theres a good spot where you can stand outside the airfield and they pass right by you when landing (i’ve got no shots of this as they always use 21 when im there and i’ve only landed on 03 once myself)

I believe i’ve also heard of people asking permission from the tower to have a look around the parked planes although I dunno if they give permission or not. Also you can look around the hangars if you ask at the hangars nicely. I cant remember if its patriot or IAE that ask for a small donation to a charity that they support in exchange for a look around their hangar.

Great pics there… never knew Cranfield got anything larger than a 172!!!
Been many years since i visited it… how accessable is the field for shooting, your shots look like taken from ramp are they ok with photographers wanting a nosey??

Hey Keith,

Thanks very much! I must addmit that was my first time seeing a Falcon 7 X. They look great with their winglets. It was actually about to depart but me and my friend actually taxied out and departed before them so I never got to see them go.
