old biplane – but which one?

dear biplane experts,
recently this photo was posted at a yahoo group
any idea which type it is?
the place: ecuador, the time: 1920s, origin: maybe from Italy
now over to you…

The non-parallel interplane struts are fairly distinctive – as is the very slender rear fuselage.

Just had a look at the history of the Ecuador Air Force, going by the Province of Napo and what looks like the EAF roundel!

The EAF did use Gabardini Monoplanes, but I couldn’t find a mention of the training biplane. However, record-keeping in a 1920’s Ecuadorian province might have a few gaps in it.

Good call, though! I think you’re spot-on with your ID.

That weird rear fuselage shape reminds me of something called an Ansaldo, but other than that I’ve not a clue.
