Picked up some lovely old books in an antique shop yesterday – for a pound each!
They are:
Enemy Coast ahead – Guy Gibson. A VERY early edition.
Britain’s Wonderful Air Force – Lots of lovely photos and drawings. Book published in August 1940.
RAF in Russia. Another wartime book. Very tatty, but some great photos.
Reaching for the Skies. Think this dates back to 1940, or possibly earlier. Performance data on the Spitfire, for example, is classified.
I’ll post some pictures when I get home – they really are lovely books.

In monetary terms, but to an aviation nut like me it’s priceless!
Totally agree – it’s very undervalued!!

Sadly, it’s worth comparatively little

My father bought this marvellous book (or was bought it) in the 40s when he was a school lad – it later became a major influence in my love of 1930s and 40s British aircraft as I read it time and again! It sadly became a bit tattered, though I have it still, along with a companion volume – Britains Wonderful Fighting Forces. Sadly, it’s worth comparatively little and I bought a pristine copy of “BWAF” a few years back for a fiver or so, to keep Dad’s original from any further deterioration.

An aviation society I am involved with got given a couple of boxes of books last week. Some very interesting finds including a Canadian civil register from 1959, Auster production list up to 1965(I think), various Air Britain publications, a Charles Brown book on aviation photography, SBAC show programmes from 1966 and other years – all in all a very nice donation.

Dan,
sounds like you hit gold.
Was this bookshop in a particularly fine city?
When Steve, Allison, Mike and I were there at the end of February we found some great stuff in the second hand bookshops in Tombland and Elm Hill.
Cheers
Andy
