Thanks for looking and kind remark, yes it was sweltering and it wasn’t the right weather to test peoples patience to wait about on that day.All power to the elbow for the little club to keep things going and make a pleasing day for one and all.

I’ll be there next year and in a different spot.:)

Lovely shots of a splendid little display. I left before the Stearman display as it was so hot and watched most of the remainder from Clare’s dads garden with a cool drink and a hot spaniel.

Cheers and I think your sites contain some pretty interesting photos and info to check things out on.:cool:I was on my way out as well and the only decent one I got was the pairs head on shot.

Some great photos here too, nice day out at Old Buck. Shame I had to go just after the Stearmans so I missed the Spitfire.

Have to agree with Moggy about the Stearman trio, that’s not to say there’s anything wrong with the rest though.

Result

That was a good reply from Moggy C and a back up answer from your friend to confirm it as well, seems to have tied things up a bit as I didn’t have a clue either about the yellow diamond patch.

Its the beauty about these forums in that any research can now be undertaken a lot more quicker and with more depth than having to trawl around libraries all day long.

thanks Moggy C

it has been confirmed by an ex RAF friend

The yellow diamond on the wing was originally a gas detection patch. Appeared on the top surfaces of aircraft wings at the outset of WWII but discontinued after a year or so”

Could be possible as an answer Moggy and sounds as plausible as an educated guess as any going.

My guess.

The yellow diamond is a representation of a gas indicator panel.

The gas attacks in WW1 left the nation very gas-conscious and in the interwar period, or early war, there was a patch of paint applied in a diamond shape to aircraft that changed colour if exposed to poison gas or very bad attacks of wind.

Hi Tarkey….Well as you can see I got them both but will take a shot in the dark about the question around the yellow diamond on the spit.dont take it as read but as an educated guess I think its something to do with the fact this spit is the oldest remaining one of its type in flying condition and only surviving one that served in the big show of the last century.

Its a shame there isnt much down in “fact”, about this point you make but this might raise the experts from a deep sleep to rectify any points with regards to the “yellow diamond patch” and why it is there.:) http://i1026.photobucket.com/albums/y322/billyjack_2010/IMG_6560.jpg

Hi tarkey….I got 1 shot of the Spit and Hurri together but was on my way out when they both turned up and was facing into the sun so it was a bit pointless collecting silouettes.

Anyhow looks like you caught it well and yes it was a good little show,if our national football team could play aswell as some of those people could fly at the show we would be in the final.I dont understand why they get paid so much for something they are not very good at.:rolleyes::).The show was 100% better entertainment anyway.
