Old colours on old airliners.

We’ve been discussing old liveries lately so I thought I’d send in a few which are adorning some aircraft of the era. Thought it would make a nice change to all the moden stuff.

I’ve noticed the BAC 1-11 mentioned a few times here. I am an aircraft mechanic and have worked on some nice stuff. I presently work on three of the four remaining flying BAC 1-11’s in the UK (one is about to be retired) and have to say that they really are nice aircraft. Much better than the boeing rubbish that I’ve worked on! (I really dislike the 727, it’s a horrible piece of engineering)

I’ve also completed a course on the VC10 Propulsion and systems.

But my favourite is still my first charge, the old D.H. Comet 4c ‘Canopus’ as seen on my website (link in sig).

I would love to have a big in depth look around the Cosford Comet to see how the design differed and developed with the later 4 series.:)

Oh, and have a good nose around the TSR2 aswell for good measure!:D

Smiler.

Cheers Kev

I really like the DC-3 pic it’s my all time favourite airliner. I used to see the Air Atlantique fleet at GLA often in the early 80’s.

Very nice Kev, its nice to see some classic aircraft here once in a while. And I’ll expect Saab will be very pleased to see the Guernsey photo. 🙂

And as for the Air Atlantique DC-3, Im looking forward to seeing one of these at Biggin Hill next month.

Cheers Kev

That, of course, is a BA 1-11 on the approach to Runway 33 at BHX. You used to be able to get right round to the back of the fuel farm, don’t know whether you still can.

Next is a DC-3 of Atlantique. Poor quality though.

Let’s try this. (But I don’t think it’s going to work.)

Been looking through some old photos and found these. They must have been taken about 20 years ago!

First is a 737 leaving BHX. Can’t remember which airline though.

I would imagine there is a fair chance that one may go to Cosford. I believe the airfield has quite a short runway and this may preclude the arrival of a Concorde by air? Perhaps one of our resident pilots might be able to tell whether or not a lightly loaded Concorde could get in safely.

With it being a British Airways Museum, do you think a concorde will be added when they are retired?

Hi Kev…

Airlines that used the Argosy:

Air Bridge Carriers (ABC)
Elan Air Cargo
Sagittair
OTRAG Range Air Services
BEA

Looks good in the BEA scheme dont you think?

I posted a pic of an Argosy, but can anyone tell me who use to operate them please? I can’t for the life of me remember anyone but Air Bridge Carriers.

Won’t know the reg ’til I report to LGW that day. I can try to find out before from ops but there could well be changes between now and then. Ironic how you have to go from GLA to LGW to get to Spain while I have to go from LGW to GLA to get there! Perhaps you should drive, I’m just about ok with a camera!

No such luck Wys, I’m flying BA to Gatwick then Malaga and vice versa. Lodging in Cadiz.

BBC couldn’t arrange a piss up in a brewery. I’ll hopefully get a picture of your plane in Seville Airport though. How soon will you know the reg ?

And if these Seville flights get any more in demand, maybe some of the old Cosford birds will have to come out of retirement. What a sight that would be !

I think he said he couldn’t get a flight to Seville, so was flying to Malaga instead, so no joy there 🙁

Nice pics Kevin. I must be the only one who like the Vickers over the rest?

Thank you for sharing them with us. 🙂
