Old Crow @ NW, Friday 10/6/05

P51 Old Crow arrived at North Weald yesterday afternoon from Belgium so that the pilot could have his DA revalidated. Very attractive back seat passenger too.

Here are a few pics for you Mustang lovers. As always, the Merlin sounded great.

He had no greens on both maingears. I think he got safely of the runway at Antwerp as the VLM F50 landed 5 mins later

… and landed in emergency with a broken push-rod (left side). 🙁

Can you be more specific? I guess there is more than one push-rod on the left side of a Mustang…

I hope everything went well.

I don’t think so. The Buchon has only flown twice (pilot Eric Vormezeele), they are having much difficulties with the airplane.

Any chance to see Frédérique Voormezeel flying the family’s Buchon OO-MAF in a reasonnable future?

Last Aeroplane reported this Mustang would become OO- registered.

Just to tell you this is not true. (Very sorry of course)
It will remain N167F

A gorgeous airplane that has been with the Scandinavian Historic Flight for decades and usually flown immaculately by Anders Saether. Presumably the Vormezeele family have been leasing it from the SHF and baseing it in Belgium temporarily.
Bud Anderson must be pleased that a Mustang bearing the markings his aircraft wore in the latter stages of WW2 while flying from Leiston is still making that inimitable whistle as it displays at European venues.

Old Crow is based at Antwerp Airport when it’s flown by Frederique Vormezeele. Saw it there in the hangar saturday, yesterday it flew over my house, don’t know where it went to.

During the winter it will probably go back to the owner in Scandinavia.

Will send picture later

I know Eric for many years now. I’m proud to say that he is one of my friends. Yes he looks very young but I can tell you that ‘Old Crow’ is in very good and safe hands with him.

Eric, has several thousand of hours of experience, he is captain 767, 737; he flew A320, A330, T-6, Stearman, A-26, Skyraider, Stampe, Moth, Chipmunk, T-28, and many other types.

But over all other considerations, I flew with him and he his ones of those very few pilots that has this amazing feeling and skill who makes the all difference.

He is not THE pilot of “Old Crow” just by luck !
When you own such a plane, you do not chooze the first “junkey” to fly it.

Yves:
An humble pilot of B-25J “Russell’s Raiders”

His name is not Eric but Frédéric…
Eric is Frédérics father, Eric flies also Skyraider, BF-109 (!), T-6, Fiat G.46, Storch, …

The warbird spirit is in the family !!

But then, he has never flown the Spitfire (any Spitfire), so can he be regarded a real warbird pilot by this Forum’s standards?

I surrender !!! 😉
