Old historic aeroplane at 0400

I was woke up this morning (sat 7th Sept) at 0400 to the gentle murmur of engines (Dakota???) over Beverley in East Yorkshire. About 10 minutes later it returned but this time slightly further away.
I wish I got out of bed to see if I could see anything. No I was not dreaming.
Does anyone know what this plane was and what would it be doing at this time in the morning.
Any help or answers would be much appreciated.

This is presumably the Swiss Rimowa Ju-52 (HB-HOT), not the Lufthansa one.

The Ju-52 was I think operating out of White Waltham this weekend on a corporate event for a luxury luggage manufacturer.

It may have ‘overnighted’ from Germany to the UK? As the Ju-52 is on a full CofA, it is therefore night-capable, but I’m pretty sure that White Waltham isn’t! If it was this aeroplane, maybe it routed into somewhere like Lydd first?

If it’s any help, I was on Oxford Street at about 4:45pm and looked up to see what looked like the Lufthansa JU-52 flying over head. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. May it have been up and about that early as well?

I must admit looking and listening to clips of this on You Tube, that is exactly what it sounded like.

There are no Dakotas flying commercially in the UK these days, so I doubt that is what you heard.

Can’t help with you Dak, but that does so remind me of the late 60s.
We lived due south of the old IBY(Ibsley) VOR , right on the coast under Red 1. At night there were frequently overflights into Mildenhall (from Lajes) of C-124s and occasionallly C133s.They routed Ortac/IBY/DB32 to CPT then BPK to leave for Mildenhall usually at about FL100.

Laying in bed at night when all was quiet except for the sounds of the waves you could hear these things 50 miles out to the south. Many times I have got up to go outside and watch their lights as the passed overhead (much to my wife’s amusement!).

I think most Daks are old enough to go out alone in the dark,or maybe it was just going home …..

I work in Camden town and every so often I can hear what for all the world sounds like a Dakota [ I’d lay money on it!] but I’m sure its the traffic spotter plane which I suspect is something quite mundane!

It would be dark at that time bearing in mind it must’ve been in the air earlier than that, are any allowed to fly at night.
