Some of you who were around back in January may remember this post I made requesting information about the Antonov An-32 shown in the pictures attached below:
“a couple of interesting pics were forwarded to me today taken this week at Panama City (Florida) of an unidentified Antonov An-32. Has anybody seen mention of this elsewhere at all? There have also been recent sightings of a similarly marked Antonov An-2 and a Mil Mi-17.
I would have thought that these were operated by the US Army’s Operational Test and Evaluation Command (OPTEC/OTSA) in threat evaluation exercises but any offers of alternative ‘owners’ would ve much appreciated”!
Well, to answer my own query some six months later, this same An-32B turned up at the Eglin AFB Open House on April 27th and it turns out that it is operated by the 6th SOS (Special Ops Sqn) of the 16th SOW (Special Ops Wing) out of Hurlburt Field, Florida. It only carries a civilian US registration with it’s old (Eritrean) crudely taped over.
Mystery solved! 🙂
