Another photo has surfaced among my late uncle’s papers.
I don’t know anything about it. There are no notes written on the reverse.
The only aircraft that I recognize is the Spitfire, that looks like a late model PR variant.

Any/all comments warmly welcomed.

Hi David / All,
It is a new photo to me and a wonderfully atmospheric view from a very interesting angle, I would certainly love to see a high resolution copy. I have a rather blurred photo of the checker-board cowling example but no serial tie up. I seem to recall a Flypast article by Peter Green (?) that may give further detailing?
Kind regards,
Tim

That’s an interesting photo. I’ve never seen a Martinet with checker-board markings on the engine cowling. I wonder what the colours were? Tim Bishop – have you seen this?

QK Code is listed as APS Sylt flying the Martinet 1

Code is actually QK so 25 Arment Practice Squadron Lubeck, Germany. The Miles Aircraft book gives QK-H, in the foreground, as EM701 moving to Lubeck17/1/47 then to ‘1 BR&SU’ Luneberg 25/11/48.

That would tie in. My uncle was at Lubeck in 1947-48.

Look like Miles Martinet to me.

Looks like Miles Martinets and Spitfire FRXIV TZ198. Martinets are coded ‘OK’ but that doesn’t tie up with things on the net. The Spit served in RAF Germany post war and that looks right for the hangar. Very interesting photo, thanks for posting.
Edit code is actually QK so 25 Arment Practice Squadron Westerland, Germany

The others looks like Blackburn Skuas.
[edit] No, I retract that. They are Miles Martinets.
