Over the bank holiday weekend, we went through some old family photos and I happened upon the following shots taken at the Coventry Airshow in 1986. Date taken was 25-05-1986 What follows is a snapshot of the past, taken by a 9-year old (me).

G-AMRA DC-3 in Old Atlantique house colours

Grace Spitfire TR9 ML407. Presumably flown by N Grace? G-BHRM C152 in background still flying today.

G-AMPY DC3 in Northwest mockup colours. Had my 1st ever flight in this about 6 months previously.

Bristol Freighter with nose door open. Unknown Provost.

I must taken this because it was big, red and I secretly fancied learning to fly. G-AZKW C172 with racing number on tail. Still flying today.

Grace Spitfire ML407. Is that Hangar 2 in the background? You can see the old tower just above the camper van on the left. Interesting as this flight seems to be over the crowd

Pitts Aerobatic Pair. Both still exist. What team were they and who were the pilots?

Pretty sure that would be Nigel Lamb as leader, with ex-RAF Lightning pilot Dick Mannning as his No 2.
Certainly not Brian Lecomber, who was flying a solo Pitts for Toyota at the time. Neither is it John Taylor, who at that time was flying with the Skyhawks Fournier aerobatic team. Phil Meeson had flown the solo Marlboro Pitts earlier in the decade, prior to the 2-ship team being established.
The Marlboro duo went on to become Team Toyota in 1989, with an Extra 300 (in Lexus markings) being added later. They then flew widely in the UK and Europe in this guise during 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993. The aircraft were subsequently shipped out to the Far East where they flew occasionally as the ‘Golden Dreams Aerobatic Team’ sponsored by Benson & Hedges. They were later joined by a 3rd Pitts, making the team a 4-ship.
The aircraft have since returned to the UK as far as I know, and in the last few years have undertaken occasional corporate engagements in Europe sponsored by Breitling.
Hope all this helps.
By the way, nice shots!
Dick Manning, thats the name i was looking for:D
G-wren was sold off, G-ROLL and G-BGSE remaining with the team.;)

Well G-WREN has served with the Northants School of Flying for some years in new clothing (all red) first at Sywell then Sibson when the school moved. They were trying to sell it recently.

… and there was a handicap race in the afternoon for most of the aircraft, Freighter and DDA’s Dakota (see the red C172 picture) included… long time ago

Love the pic of G-AMRA. My favourite Air Atlantique colour scheme.
Changing the topic of the thread slightly are there any www out there that list the participants inc serials of the Coventry Airshows of the 1980’s?

Thanks for sharing, the T33 would be G-TJET, the date puts it around the time Nigel Brendish bought it from Aces High so cant be 100% sure of the owner at that time.
