Old Question

I know this topic has been beaten to death, I apologize, but I am new to this forum. I remember reading in an older “top speed of submarines” post that someone quoted a british sub driver as claiming to have tracked a Los Angeles class sub at “over 50 knots before losing contact. Other people seemed to believe that some Nuke’s could, in an emergency exceed 40 knots. Are these claims to be believed? And what kind of speed do you think a Seawolf would be capable of in an emergency sprint if an LA could do over 50 knots?
