These must have been taken on the practice Friday and the extra had gone tech on the show day.I attended most of the practice fridays but only went to the actual shows 2 or 3 times in the 90s.Maybe it was more shows as its quite a time ago and I keep remembering snippets of when I was there:rolleyes::eek::)Nigel Lamb,Lee proudfoot and Steve Johnson were the pilots in this trio with N.L in the extra.

Were you on the airfield for this JP shot?
The only place (I can see) that the JP can be waiting to turn left onto a Runway and be on large concrete tiles is the end of Runway 33 and facing Easterly(ish). This would put the photographer on the airfield……..or a hell of a good lens.
If you click the link above and zoom in you can still see the line across the concrete marking the holding point, I placed the cross where the JP is sitting roughly so that would make the photographer’s position somewhere on the small concrete roadway towards the building. So yes he was on the airfield when the shot was taken.

I hope you don`t mind me joining in,but when you mentioned that you like jp`s i remembered that i had one scanned on my computer(poor quality)it was taken somewhere around 1978 ish.
Nice shot, I’ve never been to Brawdy but that is where it was taken. See link for exact position of the JP.

yey on a cine film site it is dated as 72
i feel either could be right although i’d favour 70 as a couple of years on i feel my memmories of it would have been stronger through being older !!
By: tornado64 - 3rd January 2011 at 10:57
according to this it was 70 and an RAF show although as you say it could tie in with the 25 yrs thing !!

You are spot on. It was Heaton Park, it would have been 71 or 72. There were the usual static displays of cockpits and such, a few helicopters. In the Sky (Gawd this is digging way past the formatted part of my head!!) was poss. the Lightning, but I do remember some old helicopters, possibly a Bristol Sycamore? I think the BoB mem. flew past, and a Shack or Lanc.
In the sky also, was a WW2 Blimp, tethered.
I can’t remember the reason for the gathering, Burtonwood had a small show about the same time. If it was 1970, it could have been 25th anni. of the end of WW2?
thank you for that , i always wanted to learn a little more about that event
i know i went there and my only memmories are walking around the gardens , the lightning and getting on the bus home
as i was only about six
i would love to see photo’s of the event but i presume most are lost as i have found little on the internet or localy
it would be intresting to find out which lightning and markings it was in for a painting project !!

i would have only been ten then !!
although around that time i have memmories of being taken there although the only aircraft i remember was the yak i think the story went ” it was captured and the russians denied it existed
another memmory of around those years ( early seventies ) was either a millitary tattoo or a small air display over a local large park ( heaton park ) where the main attraction was an english electric lightning !!

Nice one Dogman…. that’s one our fleet of 4 JP’s – XP547 waiting there. I’m just trying to work out the angle of that shot to place it at Brawdy…. it’s not a viewpoint I’ve seen before? Drove all over the airfield in my time there, so maybe just a rusty brain – do you have any more info on this photo?

It’s a Mk4 from RAF Brawdy. Location could be RAF Chivenor or Brawdy.

My most favourite Barton day was the “Auster Fly-in”. circa 1974?? Anybody else remember it? I took dozens of photo’s, but Lord knows where they are now.
There was also an Anniversary fly in around the same time, 50th of the Lancashire Aero CLub I seem to recall.
i would have only been ten then !!
