When I was young, growing up on a farm in rural Nova Scotia, Canada, a nearby farmer had a rather large, long trailer fitted with two Mosquito main wheels.

Must have been a b****r to tow, swinging all over the place.:D:D

Looks like a very recent photo,I wonder how many more of these tyres the truck owner still has? Maybe worth a call, looks like hes in USA or Canada!

Dagnabbit Reba!

In a hangar I used to work in once there was this tall set of telescopic stairs that rode on P-51 tail wheels. A restorer elsewhere in the country paid handsomely for them and they were removed.

I know of a case in Worcestershire where a farmer fitted a pair of Javelin nosewheels to a trailer. Apparently they are split rims, so it is fairly easy to fit alternative tyres. The wheels came from the Javelin that was at RAF Hartlebury until it was scrapped. I heard that the Javelin went for £1000 although I don’t remember the date. It was presumably when tha place closed down.

ive picked up a few wheels/tyres from farms across the UK over the years. i still have a DH Hornet and a Vampire main wheel kicking around. they had been used on farm carts up until the point where they get a punture. then no one in the area can fix them so they get dumped. the best find was when i got 4 DH Hornet wheels/tyres for £20 about 10 years ago.

When I was young, growing up on a farm in rural Nova Scotia, Canada, a nearby farmer had a rather large, long trailer fitted with two Mosquito main wheels. I was told he acquired these from Stanley airfield, about 25 miles away, after the war. I think RAF Station Greenwood is a more likely source, as there were Mosquitos based there, for training duties, during the war, starting in 1943. Greenwood is about 50 road miles from the farmer.

Bit of a thread drift, I was told they tested the Tornado’s undercarriage at Cranfield and they wanted to see how it worked so they had artic petrol tanker filled with water and two tornado mains bolted to the side that they could be blown down to extend, this tanker hurled down the runway and at a given point the wheels were blown down lifting the tankers wheels off the ground so it was then running on the two skinny tornado units… Apparently it used to snake and scare the driver sh*******s
