From January all landings at Old Warden will be free of charge.

Two minutes ago, I spoke to Sandra Creevy at Shuttleworth. She confirmed that, as of the 1st January next, no one will be required to pay a landing fee.

And if you click the Information for Pilots link –

Landing fee: £12 per aircraft, free to Shuttleworth Veteran Aeroplane Society (SVAS) members

I think they need to get their act together.

Some confusion here then as this is what is being promulgated in the GA press and shows all the signs of being an extract from a press release.

Shuttleworth (Old Warden) has announced that landing fees for pilots visiting the airfield are being withdrawn for the upcoming year from 1 January 2015.

Shuttleworth is unique as both an aviation and a family friendly location, with an on-site restaurant (offering free WiFi), play area for children and gift shop / visitor centre in addition to the Collection of vintage aircraft from 1909 to the early 1950s and adjacent period Swiss Garden.

Chief Engineer, Jean-Michel Munn said, “We are hoping that this change will benefit our regular visiting aviators who come to enjoy the facilities, as well as encouraging those who have never been to discover everything we have to offer here at Shuttleworth.”

According to the letter I got from the SVAS with the Prop-Swing magazine today, landing fees are free for pilots who are members, £12 for non members.

A welcome and progressive gesture. They will easily make up the ‘loss’ with sales of refreshments and fuel.
