Old Warden – Evening display 25 Sep. The day of the 'underside shot'

The day started unpromisingly as I was late leaving home and had to face heavy traffic whilst driving there under solid cloud. However my gliding experience told me the cloud would dissipate as the convection ended.
After a cloudy start the day ended in glorious sunshine. The strong evening sun was a mixed blessing as there was a lot of contrast between the ‘lit’ and ‘unlit’ bits of the a/c. The only downside was a very strong and gusty wind. One could only admire the skill of the pilots.

The day started with a display of vintage gliders. This is the Slingsby Petrel

Next up were the Hurricane and Storch which buzzed around so quickly it was difficult to know where to point the camera

Not great photographically but interesting as the Hurricane ‘tailed’ the Storch

There were odd flashes of sunlight but nothing significant until the Hurricane’s last pass

Then the light got better as the Gladiator appeared

Two little Chiltons

Then the sun came out and lit up the undersides

An excellent set… love the second shot of the Stoch, the Gladiator, the first shot of the blue Chilton and the Demon. Thanks.
