Hi Snapper

Nice to meet you on Sunday, sorry we were not a bit more chatty but as you saw we were recovering from the mishap. On Sunday, the wind suddenly increased markedly which is when the mishap occurred and although we tried to start again we had to give it up soon afterwards. Some of the aircraft were unable to get away until late into the evening because of the wind.

I don’t suppose you want to hear this, but we had a great day on Saturday with almost 100 people flown!

As for the emergency services, there is a Pre-Determined Attendance, so you get what they send you. The airfield was licenced because of flying fare-paying passengers and standard procedures were followed. No one was hurt, which is the main thing. The Tiger is still to be looked at.

The dHMC Moth Rally is at Woburn Abbey 16/17 August, although we will not be doing charity rides, let me know if you are able to make it.

Brilliant picture of Mrs S and Whipper! 😀

yes, that was me, don’t worry, I can see when I man is not happy with the world and you fell into that catagory. I was hoping that the weather would get better but no luck. It was clear that many of the Moth owners wanted to leave to avoid getting stuck over night, can’t blame them. Hope you get your ride some other time 🙂

“I tried to spark up some conversation with a guy near the club tent but he was clearly p***d off as he had driven for 5 hours and it did not look like he was going to get a flight.”

Was he wearing an Irvin, and bugger all hair? If so, I do apologise…I was a bit pissed off, but also had to go and help my wife with the little’un asap, so my mind was elsewhere anyway. A pity, because we could have had a natter together. Ah well.

Had you just driven 1 1/2 hours perchance?

And I still say that the Dragonfly is the most beautiful aeroplane of all time (esp. that one).

I tried to spark up some conversation with a guy near the club tent but he was clearly p***d off as he had driven for 5 hours and it did not look like he was going to get a flight. Brave effort though for the Moth pilots as the wind was pretty bad on Sunday. Could not believe the over reaction of the emergency services if it was all for the one mishap. I counted at least 3 police cars and 2 fire engines, all with lights flashing. Unless there was something else going on the required their attention.

Ha. There was more to the Emergency Services over-reaction than just the nose over. I’ll leave that to Steve to explain. I got s few decent snaps which I may upload tonight if I get time. Wasn’t it a pity through? There was a good few hundred quid available for the charity, which is the main thing, and a Tiggy is damaged. So many perspectives, but Saturday was good apparently, so not to worry.

And Moggy – walking up the stairs is something I avoid when possible!

Sorry you didn’t get a flight. We were on the list as well – down towards the bottom. Still, as you say hopefully there’s another chance next year.

You might have seen us helping to stop the green tent blow away when that squall came through.

Shame that G-AMTV got caught by the wind and nosed over. Noone hurt, fortunately. The two fire engines, police cars and ambulance were a bit over the top, as the OW fire crew soon got it back on an even keel. Looking at it in the hangar later, the prop was bent – hopefully the engine will be OK.

The pic shows it on an earlier flight

Bah.

Snapper.

It’s your own stupid fault. You should never have tried to walk all that way from Lowestoft to Old Warden. Taking a car, or even bikes would have been much more sensible.

Moggy 😉
