Oldest former G-A flying overseas

One for the civil aviation enthusiasts among us – not many on this Forum perhaps.

Reading recently of the former Derby Airways Dakota still earning its keep on the Haiti relief effort set me wondering what is the oldest originally G-A registered aircraft no longer based in the UK still flying.

I imagine that by registration date DH60X Moth G-EBXU, transferred to Spain a few years ago, is likely to be the oldest former occupant of the British Civil Aircraft Register still active overseas, but would guess that the earliest ex G-A aircraft (not a replica) is likely to be in Australia or New Zealand, although for all I know it could likewise be in Spain or maybe in somewhere like the USA or Germany. Can anyone suggest any likely candidates?

Jack up the registration and slide a new airframe underneath?

the rules should be that it hasn’t had a rebuild

Ah, but what constitutes “a rebuild” – at the risk of opening yet again that oft opened can of worms!

Gooday All

I think for this type of contest, the rules should be that it hasn’t had a rebuild. That is it should be essentially the original aeroplane fitted with the original engine.

cheers

Oldest active NZ aircraft to fit these criteria would be DH60G Moth c/n 1101 ZK-ADT ex G-AAJO 5Jun1929.
As G-AAJO this Moth was flown UK – Australia Sep-Nov34 by Fg.Off. S G White and then shipped to NZ.
Inactive since 18Jan65, it was restored and flown again in April 2004.

Of course the oldest active NZ aircraft to have been allotted a British civil registration would be the 1917 Royal Aircraft Factory Be-2F A1325 / 133 / G-BVGR / ZK-BFR – but I don’t think that G-reg was ever actually used!

How about DH.60 Moth G-AUAE?

Was built as a Cirrus (c/n 192) to Aust as G-AUAE, later VH-UAE. Upgraded at some stage to a Gipsy. Impressed into RAAF in WWII as A7-88, survived, flying today as a DH.60G VH-UAE.
