A while back there was some talk of standing seats on Ryanair and an interview with the charming Mr O’ Leary.
I thought he was having a laugh, some sort of wind-up. As someone who doesnt follow commercial issues is this for real ?

Kudos to Capt. Fisher. Sadly however, and it grieves me to say it, he is every bean counter and shareholders dream. 🙁

The laugh may soon be on MO’L himself as he may be sent to the knackers yard
Todays financial press is awash with an outspoken RyanAir pilot Captain Morgan Fisher’s very serious written suggestion ‘I would propose that Ryanair replace the CEO with a probationary cabin crew member currently earning approximately €13,200 net per annum.’
According to Captain Fisher this would help Ryanair save millions of euros in terms of salary, benefits and stock options.
Many have commended Captain Fischer’s open mockery of the airline’s chief, with the President of the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association calling the captain’s comments ‘extremely unique’.
Truer words couldn’t be spoken. RyanAir could certainly do without MO’L but could they do without flight and cabin crew?
To the ‘knackers yard’ with MOL to join his retired horses.

Don’t know. If he invested a ****load of money into safety R&D of standing “seats”, get airplane makers to cut twice as many emergency exit holes into the fuselage and re-certify the whole shebang …
But I actually doubt that standing, which would be more like kneeling in any case, would increase density by any interesting margin.

standing seats
Surely an oxymoron!:D

That crossed my mind as well. It is consequently difficult to see what the point of those standing seats could possibly be.

FrequentFlyer, even with these seats installed the 738 is still only certified to carry 189 passengers, so basically the number of extra seats they can install is zero!
By: FrequentFlyer - 13th September 2010 at 17:27
Supposing this did get the green light with the regulators, how many could they cram onto a 738?
Also, would it be allowed with the number of exits on board, and lets say if you are a little short to stand/sit (???) in those seats?

There is no reason at all that any company could design such a piece of equipment, call it a project seat like a project car, but getting it past the regulators is another obstacle all together. MOL has had his pennyworths amount of publicity for this stunt and it won’t fly, especially as he is now proposing to move away from his low cost airline model in the future.
