Is it true that John Lennon used to collect WW2 stuff or am I being wound up?

The barstools on board were/are covered in a leather made from, and I kid you not, the foreskins of the Minke whale…

But if a woman sits on them they enlarge into a sofa.

She was completed, launched, and accepted into the navy in ’43, yes, but the article I read said they started building her in 1942.

I know

The “Christina”. I believe it was built by Canadian-Vickers in 1942. Used to be known as HMCS Stormont. There was an article a while back in a yachting magazine that I read, which gave all her particulars.

What is it with people with lots of money, their yachts and the skins or horns of dead animals. When I saw the wall tiled with with the skins of white stingrays and the alligator chair with the Kudo horns I was reminded of Aristotle Onassis and his famous yacht. The barstools on board were/are covered in a leather made from, and I kid you not, the foreskins of the Minke whale…

As seen in that video. Not only is it ugly, but it is as vulgar as hell. If I could have a yacht, I’d find an Edwardian steam yacht, and restore it. Failing that, I’d have a 1930s racer, in teak and mahogany, with gleaming, polished brass fittings, and flapping sails. Now all I need is that lottery win…

Believe it or not Onassis’s yacht is basically a converted ‘Daring class’ frigate which had seen service in the Atlantic convoys of WWII.
