Yes, and pigs might fly – except within the Olympics exclusion zone!

This was cause for some spirited discussion at Todays Display Pilots Seminar at which the CAA representative present got a fair bit of stick, he however could tell us little more than what is enclosed in the issued document.
His advice what to make contact on the email address published and express your concerns, enough pressure could force a change, maybe!!!!

Will the RAF be putting a CAP up to deal with any intrusions?
The other possibility is a/c flying under the radar…if a guy could fly across Russia and land in Red Square at the height of the cold war……
Mathias Rust was intercepted but nobody would make the decision to either force or shoot him down. Command and control went out the window that day!
Mathias Rust interview recounting the intercept.

You could always come north for a couple of weeks, i’m sure there’s a few RAF airfields that could do with some trade – 😀

…….It will almost certainly mean the closure of a number of businesses and loss of jobs, as flying schools and maintenance operations are going to suffer…………
And we spent how much on our Olympic bid plus how much on organising/building stadiums, etc. because it would benefit businesses and create jobs???????

Your very final sentence should surprise no one. In these cases do interested parties have the right to appeal?

I don’t think that anyone can have too much of a beef about the exclusion zone around the immediate area of Central London and the Olympic Village. Most of it is after all, already controlled Class A airspace.
However the 300+ square mile proposed ‘resticted area’ stretching from Reading in the west to Southend in the east, from Old Warden and Duxford in the north to almost the south coast, is ridiculous.
It will almost certainly mean the closure of a number of businesses and loss of jobs, as flying schools and maintenance operations are going to suffer.
I gather that when questions were asked at the CAA ‘briefing’ this week, about this effect on airspace users such as vintage aircraft, gliders, balloons etc, that simply often cannot carry the equipment required, there were blank looks on the faces of civil servant. It clearly hadn’t been thought through!

One reason is the obvious anti-terror one (and preventing recce by air for ground-based terrorists) but another reason is the prevention of ambush advertising (Ballooons, towed banners, airships etc) – the restrictions on advertising around the Olympic venues to only IOC approved sponsors is actually quite draconian.
…and that’s not the only draconian demand! But that’s for another thread……….

Nobody said there would actually be any water in the pistol… it will all be in the glorious new aquatics centre that sits next to the railway line in the East of London.
By: Sky High - 9th March 2011 at 11:11
Water pistols, still?….Are you sure?

They’ll be putting up an air cadet in a Tutor with a water pistol. It’s all we’ll have left by then!

Whoever heard of a paramotor with a transponder and a radio ? What planet are these people on ?
It may be an initiative to fill the skies with unmanned observation vehicles for the first time, and that really would be the thin end of the wedge.

What RAF?

Don’t worry, we don’t need an air force any more; there’s nothing left in Britain worth invading us for.
By: Moggy C - 8th March 2011 at 22:18
That would be funny if there wasn’t a great deal of truth in it.
