Chaps

Most aircraft AP’s can be purchased as copies from the RAF Museum.

I have bought a few strange ones from there in the past, such as Venom NF3 – not cheap, but the list is pretty comprehensive.

Bruce

PS, If anyone gets stuck for DH Manuals, then let me know – I can copy for you, but again, it wont be cheap.

Hi Scott , I have a list of all of the Lightning AP’s , since I purchased the manual on Ebay I have started to collect them all , the idea is to get the manual cover and binding replaced – if you can Email me at

ageorge@haemonetics.com

I am trying to copy the manual right now but the binding is breaking up and I’m trying to keep it as intact as possible until I get it restored – I’ll be more than happy to come down and let you seen what I have so far , any chance of letting me have a look at your Lightning ?????:) 🙂 🙂

I have had a good read through this and it is a very comprehensive manual which covers the rigging of XA853 and XA856 , and in lesser detail all of the servicing requirements of XG307-310 . It is full of drawings , diagrams and specifications of everything from tyre pressures to paint codes . I would be very interested in any info about the above aeroplanes . At the rear of the book there is a list of Lightning AP’s from 2337 to 4483 , I would like to start collecting these – can anybody give me some hints on where to find any of them ???. If anybody wants any info from the book I can try to photocopy it and send on some prints , the binding is in poor condition so I intend to copy the whole manual before getting the binding replaced and a cover made for it . It really is an amazing book – and at least the money I spent on it is going to be spent getting a British built aeroplane back in the air .

Damien – check your PM’s , you can get me direct at

ageorge@haemonetics.com

Thanks

Yes , we’re having a meet-up on Aprill the 24th , fancy driving up ??, be nice to put a face to the name !! . I’m trying to persuade Keith Mac to come down and give us one of his presentations , I know he gave EF all of his NBC kit , flying helmet etc so I’m hoping to see some of that too .

I’ve been in contact the owner of the manual by E-mail and this is the genuine article , it was given by the engineer to the current owner on the proviso that it was ” to help in your aviation career in whatever way it can ” , any money raised by the sale is going towards the rebuild of an aeroplane in the UK .

I agree Damien, ideally the notebook should belong in a museum. Judging from the images, the notebook looks very fragile.

Alhough a unique item, it’s a tad on the expensive side. No doubt the same information can be gleaned from lecture notes, and I’ve seen complete sets (4 or 5 volumes) go for around £120. I have, in my collection, a volume 1 of the EE Lightning airframe notes, from the late 50’s, which includes some information and diagrams on the P1B.

Does anybody else have to watch their back when using the web or sending private email from work?

Yes, I’ve got to watch as well. All access to “dodgy sites” gts logged and we get a nice page with our company’s logo telling us the classification for the site!!! We reckon they get so many reported they probably don’t action them.

Fortunately this one is OK as it isn’t classified as Chat like some forums.

fortunately the university I work for (probably more accurate to say ‘get paid by’;) ) runs a policy of ‘reasonable personal use of the networks. So as long as you don’t access ‘inappropriate’ sites they are ok about it. Biggest problem here is all the students clogging the system emailing each other with jokey images etc.

Ok Ok I got to ask. what is it you are all bidding for ?

The company I work for has recently ‘closed down’ a lot of non work related web sites such as ebay and Exchange and Mart, so I can not check for myself. I’ve been told to watch out about the ‘non business use’ web sites and email groups, big brother is watching!. Hey I dont care as I leave the company next Friday. The firm has become tedious and boring to work for, with too many managers and memo’s about counting the paper clips. Does anybody else have to watch their back when using the web or sending private email from work?

I think XA853 was scrapped in the 60’s, you may be thinking of XA847 which the RAF Museum disposed off to a private owner who in turn parted with it to Marine Salvage. It’s now being cared for by a private owner in Suffolk.
