On the A1 going North

Hi all
Anyone know what the aircraft was going North on the A1 at Grantham was ? I was heading south in a lorry myself so did not get a good look but it looked like a faded blue Harvard type aircraft with American markings. No engine but the wings were along side. Like I said I didnt get a good look, the Police get a bit funny about hanging out of a 44 ton lorry window, so it may be another type altogether.
Anyone know what, where and why.
