Yes,it’s the return of the ‘whats on the box’ feature:
-Sunday,Dec 9th,5.55pm,BBC2 “War wrecks of the Coral Sea”:This is a nature/history documentary about the various WW2 wrecks that lie both on land and on the seabed in the area known as the Coral Sea.This was a major battle zone in the Pacific war in 1942.The programme aims to show how nature has turned these weapons of war (aircraft, ships, tanks etc)into a thriving natural habitat, aswell as giving background information on how they came to be there.Certainly looks worthwhile.
-Monday,Dec10th,8.00pm,Ch4 “Arctic Adventures”:This is the story of Umberto Nobile’s expedition to the North Pole in 1928,which ran into trouble when his airship crashed near the pole itself.Could be worth a gander…
-Friday,Dec14th,8.00pm Ch5 “Secrets of World War Two”:Looks at the development of the V1 and V2 and other secret flying weapons designed by Nazi Germany.Worth a look in itself, there then follows at 8.30 ‘Britain’s war Heroes’,which tells the story of Lieutenant Ian Fraser VC who destroyed Japanese shipping off Singapore in a midget submarine. Not perhaps usual Flypast material, but surely worth a look.
I haven’t had a chance yet to browse through the listings for the satellite channels,so I might put up a posting for those in a day or two.
Feel free to make any corrections or add anything else to this listing,I certainly don’t mean for this kind of thing to be my feature exclusively.

RE: On the box
I always wonder, can you just imagine what aircraft are lying about at the bottom of the North Sea? If only lost aircraft types could generate the same high-profile interest as famous lost ships for a change, and then maybe we’d finally get to see (And probably laugh at) a Stirling for example.

RE: On the box
Just watched the BBC2 Pacific wrecks program that was recommended and it was very interesting. It was good from both the natural history aspect and the historic record, with some very interesting footage of both Japanese and US aircraft. Some real gems on the sea bed, alas too far gone for any salvage, but nice for the fishes !!.
Thanks for putting us onto it.

Aw, cheers Philo! I just thought the daily picture thing was pushing other topics down a bit quickly.
Ant, I know you’re not an expert mate, but you do bother to check these things and let us all know, for which we’re grateful! Last I heard the programme was being re-named ‘Night Flight’ and was going to be on in November…I’m still waiting! It will probably be rubbish anyway, but I just want to see that Lanc at speed up on her tippy-toes…I’m guessing it will be on after Christmas now though at least.

RE: On the box
I should point out that I’m not an insider in the TV business,so i’ve no idea when the drama with the take-off shots of NX611 will be.I’d heard that it was going to be called ‘Night and Day’ and be shown over the remembrance weekend, but ofcourse it never was. There is a drama on ITV at the moment also called Night and Day.Perhaps the makers of the NX611 drama got wind of this and withdrew thier series for a renaming??Just a theory…

RE: On the box
Great Ant, thanks, but do you know when this Lanc NX611 drama is on? I asked on here recently, but all these fans of the ‘pictures of the day’ are pushing the other posts down the page bloody quickly now!
