Hi all,
Myself and fellow forum member BT777 had a wander to MAN yesterday to see what the UEFA fuss was all about. Letโs just say it was well worth the trip over!
All images captures with a Canon 30D and EF 70-200L f4. The first one was taken at 06:34, giving us an early indication of the kind of stunning weather we were in for!

A shot of the general south side… Photographers, spotters, aircraft and sunshine all very much present!

Wonderful Paul, some of your best work I’ve seen, I love the Dragonair 744 Cargo

Very niiiiice!
Where exactly on the South Side is that? Is it what was the old viewing area, with a hut to buy brick-a-brack and Tea?
I’ve not been there since about the mid 90’s.
I don’t remember the old viewing area, but a little way down to the left from where the ‘triangle’ used to be if you know that? It’s just right by the touchnown zone for 05R.
Thankyou again, all. Your kind words are very much appreciated. ๐

All very nice Paul – loving the Russian BBJ – she looks stunning in those colours.
Nice to see that on such a special day movement wise you were all lucky enough to be graced with some half decent weather up there for once! ๐ You’ve come away with some stunning shots. Great shooting matey – if there are anymore to come, i look forward to seeing them! ๐

Brilliant set of pictures, well impressed. Glad to hear that I am not the only one who thinks the Tu154 is beautiful. I’m also impressed with the guy balancing on top of that step ladder. I have one just like it and have fallen off every time I have tried to get on the top step unless I am next to fence that I can hang onto.

Great stuff Paul – what a fantastic day with superb weather it was!
I’m sifting through my shots at the moment but it’s definately a case of where do you start?! I must have been a little way further down from you – the QR A330 touched down more or less in front of me.
I look forward to seeing more soon…

Brilliant Paul, looks like you hit gold! Of all the times I have been there, only once have the landers been in that direction and I was lucky to be at the same spot as you with great weather as well. The spot you were at is just perfect for photography!
Did you get the IS version of the 70-200 F4?Damian
Thanks, Damian! I didn’t go for the IS version, just the standard although it’s so sharp at f4 I don’t have the depth of field worries I’ve had with previous lenses if I need to let a bit more light in, so IS isn’t something I really ‘need’ as such.
Thanks again!

And finally, the special stuff!

And the four highlights of the day for me. The YAK-42:

The Transaero 747:

And two examples of what has to be one of my favourite passenger jets. The Awesome and stunningly beautiful TU-154!

I have to say I think this was in my top 3 favourite days ever at MAN. The weather was stunning, the traffic was superb, I met up with quite a few great people and to top it off, having seen my photos itโs cemented in my mind that the EF 70-200L is optically the best thing thatโs ever hung from the front of my 30D. Iโm absolutely blown away by it and Iโm so pleased I seem to have made a good choice in buying it.
Anywayโฆ I still have probably another 100 shots to edit from yesterday so there may be a few more tagged onto this thread at some point.
Thanks for looking!
Paul
P.S. Thanks for driving, Benny!
