One Day Exercises

Should the public be invited to selected one day exercises from safe areas?

Air shows/displays are all very well at showing off current air, army and naval equipment, but we never get a true insight into anything approaching the true capabilities of the equipment they use.

I think there would be some interest in really showing how our armed forces work together and, short of actually inviting the public to war zones, and given the number of exercises performed by the services in training, I think it would be a good idea to invite the public to watch some exercises from safe areas.

For instance, there are frequent exercises held by the Navy not too far from Plymouth. Ships are often intercepted by the Navy’s air assetts of Falcons and Hawks, and larger exercises involving all three services must happen occasionally.

So, why can’t we be invited to selected exericses, from safe areas set aside for public viewing?

Obviously we couldn’t be invited to some due tosensitive security issues, but I’m sure they don’t all fall into this category.
