Hi All,
I’m after information on a Mosquito + Spitfire collision. I’ve been trying to find info on the Mossie, but without success. So I’m hoping one of the many Spit. anoraks might be able to help a Mossie anorak.
12th August 1942, a Mosquito was in collision with Spitfire BL 469, at Hornchurch, while taxi-ing.
Anyone know:
1. Mosquitoes serial No.?
2. The names of the crew & any injury, to them(if any)?
3. What was the damage to both aeroplanes?
Cheers,
Neilly

Hi Flood,
You’re quite correct, the incident that I’m interested in does come from the Mosquito Crash Log. However, I can’t find any further information on the Mosquito concerned. It just seemed strange that the Spitfire registration is given & the Mosquitoes isn’t, especially when you consider it’s the Mosquito Crash Log!
Thanks Christer for your input, too.
Cheers,
Neilly

Would it not be reasonable to assume that this Mosquito suffered damage which either: a/ turned out to be repairable after all, or b/ caused it to become an instruction airframe – with all the problems associated with trying to pin them down!
I have looked at my copy of David J Smiths Mosquito Crash Log (is this the one you are refering to?) and would only assume that it may have been included because it is an accident very early in the types career – it obviously didn’t do much damage to BL469.

Hi Neilly!
According to Spitfire The History, BL469 has no mention of a collision with a Mossie. It has an entry of flying into a hill in formation with AR338 and W3427 on 11/09/43 while with 315 squadron. The other two aircraft have the corresponding entry.

Hi Keith,
Sorry about the questions:p I’m beginning to think there’s a mistake (one of many, & I do mean MANY!!!) in the Mosquito Crash Log. This is why I was hoping someone with Spitfire info., might be able to help.
By the way, I have DD 758 as bellylanding. Nothing about colliding with a Spitfire. Do you have any more info on this one?
Thanks for your input.
Cheers,
Neilly

Hi Neilly, I’ve been though my records, all I can find is Mossie DD758 taxying into Spitfire MK206 at Ford on 9 June 1944, this of course is no help at all! – in future could you please arrange for your questions to be ones for which I have answers!!
