That glossy American-applied paintjob is horrid! Still,it’s a Spit,so it doesn’t exactly look ugly. 😉
Depends on what you call ugly 😉

Has she been flown under Bob’s ownership yet? There doesn’t seem to be much staining behind the exhausts etc that you might expect.
Could have been cleaned, those exhaust stains do come off :p

Mark V,
That sounds very interesting. I have colour shots which unfortunately I am not at liberty to post here but here is a b/w shot at the Thompson Trophy Eliminator at the Cleveland Air Races in 1949.
The ‘cheat flash’ is blue/red/blue.
‘Edmonton Canada’ is in red outlined in blue.
The ‘Imperial Oil’ logo is red.
The Race number and civil registration CF-GMZ is in black.

How about its racing scheme?

I suppose we must not blame Bob Jens for this ‘below par’ paint job of TZ138, as it goes back ten years and two previous owners to air racer ‘Tiger’ Destefani at Shafter Ca.
This is a former RAF ‘Winterisation’ test aircraft. Matt period finish and and the unique snow skis would make it an interesting exhibition discussion piece.

Spitfire Picture
Now if you’d only widened the shot you would have had the Mosquito in the Picture as well.
