The constant awful winter storms have caused the River Wandle to return to Carshalton park., something that has not happened in over 15 years and nobody I have spoke to remembers it flowing as it is now.
The area as with much of England is on a flood warning, but it is amazing to see the river back to life again.

Yes, it seems that Carshalton forms the second main source of the Wandle (the first apparently being under the former Swan and Sugar Loaf pub in South Croydon)
I lived near the Swan and Sugarloaf until a few months back and was wondering if with the water table of Ravensbourne causing so many problems at Purley and Kenley if there is a risk of that area flooding too.

Many thanks for that series of photos. I know Carshalton very well but, didn’t know that the Wandle flowed thru’. My knowledge of the Wandle comes from that section that flows (on a good day) thru’ Colliers Wood/Tooting. There, the river is embanked and was during my early years little more than a sewer. As time went by, it became cleaner and sticklebacks could be seen. 150 years ago the Wandle was an important tributary of the Thames. Looks like it is on its way back.

Lovely photos and it shows what rivers are for and natural pits /storage overflow areas for wet weather.Let nature do what she was deigned to do and all will be better BUT build on her and you can what is happening.
