One of the most remarkable aircraft to emerge from Japans aero industry

Kyushu J 7w Shinden(Magnificent Lightning) Looks rather strange 😮 , Like its back to front  , But with a estimated speed of 446mph and some very big guns up front, It may have gave the Allies some trouble :p , But with the first flight on the 3rd August 1945 the war was over very soon, Cheers everyone, Tally Ho! Phil. 😎

Speedy and well armed it might have been but at high altitude it would have sucked surely. Probably would have an awesome roll rate and would have been generally very agile, but I suspect more as a short ranged low-medium level fighter-interceptor, in anticipation of US fighter and medium bomber sweeps over the mainland during the Invasion that never happened.

J7W

I remember seeing this thing in store at Silver Hill in 1983. With those huge inlets down the sides and a rather Rutan-like layout, it somewhat looked as though it would rather be a jet. Must have been a handful with a six-blade single-rotation prop like that. Anyone care to replicate it, with a contraprop-equipped Griffon, and see how she does at Reno…? 🙂

There was a movie clip of this thing flying, posted some time back. Anyone know where it is? Very grainy.

The part I remember is the aircraft trying to take off, shortly followed by a close up of bent prop tips and a perplexed looking ground crew!
