RE: ONEWORLD (PLAYING FAIR??)

I believe Pan Am had a similar gig in Frankfurt in the 80’s/early 90’s. When Delta purchased their European routes, they acquired this mini ‘hub’ as well. Delta had 727’s stationed at Frankfurt until the mid 90’s, when they withdrew them and everything to Europe was nonstop from JFK using 767-300ER’s. I know my father on more than one occasion, did LAX-ATH on Delta via Frankfurt connecting on 727’s. That’s the reason I know this.

RE: ONEWORLD (PLAYING FAIR??)

Well I think that what Iberia does in Miami is a success or thats what I think that Aerolineas Argentinas think, Aerolineas is going to set one MD-88 in Madrid for flights between Madrid-Paris and Madrid-London connecting with its daily A-340/B-747 flight from Buenos Aires to Madrid. The MD88 will fly six times from the capital of Spain to those cities (just six flights per week, wont it be too expensive for Aerolineas?). For the ones that didnt know that Iberia has a hub in Miami, just say that it is not a franchise partner, it has 4 Airbus 319, for flights to 7 cities in the Caribbean (Cancún, Guatemala, San Salvador, San Pedro Sula, Managua, San José and Panamá) most of them with a daily flight, this summer Iberia will increase frequences between some of those cities and Miami. Iberia has two daily flights from Madrid to Miami one with an A340 and the other one operated with B747. Thank you for reading this.

RE: ONEWORLD (PLAYING FAIR??)

There a long time since Iberia had a HUB in Miami. Why is it allowed?. No idea. But its Iberia, not a codeshare. Before the A319 were sent, some DC-9 were transfered. They were the only DC-9 fitted with trasatlantic Sleeper seats for a short hop to Central america. But it seems that Iberia wants to close it and to transfer it to other South America country. All the countrias in the area are offering unbeatable conditions to Iberia to tranfer their services there. IB decission will go to Cuba, Dominican Republic or even Honduras. After the 11 sept, most passengers flying to the area, refused to fly AA and usually got Iberia A319 which flew fully booked. About why not using AA flights…..? good point. The hub is an old thing and Oneworld alliance is something new. In any case Iberia is having big troubles in Oneworld. IB passengers reject flying AA, specially in South America.

I’m just going by what Keltic posted. I find it hard to believe, in fact if it is true, that Iberia has A319’s stationed at Miami operating those flights. Aside from the fact that the U.S. would allow that to begin with, why not just put your flight numbers on AA’s?

RE: ONEWORLD (PLAYING FAIR??)

Is it actually Iberia?

I am surprised that a foreign airline is allowed to operate in the US. Maybe it is a franchise carrier – like Comair/BA in South Africa.

RE: ONEWORLD (PLAYING FAIR??)

I was not aware that Iberia had a hub at Miami and had their own aircraft stationed there. My question is, why don’t they just put their flight numbers on AA flights considering AA has a huge presence there with endless connections to the Caribean and Latin America?

RE: ONEWORLD (PLAYING FAIR??)

For Iberia is an advantage. Iberia don´t have conflictive niches with AA/BA: The North Atlantic market is limited and the Far East inexistent. So AA and BA help in these markets and Iberia (with the most comprehensive Latinamerica network boosts BA and AA conections to South America. On the other way, it´s one of the few airlines with a HUB for South America in the US (Miami) with the A319 fleet over there to conect Central American destinations to passengers coming either IB or AA to Miami from Europe.

RE: ONEWORLD (PLAYING FAIR??)

Well, AA and BA are by far the 2 most monopolistic airlines in existance. As far as them taking advantage of the other members of OneWorld, I really don’t see that. They benefit quite a bit from the other members, such as QANTAS.
