That was my ‘company’ firearm when I worked in the industry, very impressive noise and appearance, but I couldn’t actually hit a barn door with it. (For that I needed the MP5)

Yes, part of the job was to check that the applicants gun cabinets were up to the required standard. If it was a F/Arm, ie rifle, then I had to go and check the land that the applicant was going to shoot on to make sure any projectile would not hit any houses buildings etc, within the range of the rifle. Obviously I had to check applicants who were members of gun clubs, hence I was very fortunate to go and shoot at their ranges.

Now, if the police in the U.S.A. followed OUR stringent checks …………………………………………..say no more on the dreaded 2nd.

Trekkie. If you get the chance, have a go on a rifle range. It’s a very challenging hobby.and fun, Even if it’s only a ’22. (Even better if you can get your hands on a 457 Magnum.)

Err, well like I used to be the Firearms Officer in the Southern half of Lincolnshire, may I say thanks for a very informative piece of information, I never knew about, ie, holding ones breath. prior to squeezing the trigger, plus distance, elevation, wind, etc etc.Wow, that’s what I love about G.D. one learns something new every day……..:D

In that respect Moggs you are correct, your not wrong. You should inhale as much as you can, then exhale, to make sre you don’t have to breath in, whilst lining up the target. Then there is the shooting position if you are shooting a rifle, ie, you have to be lying on the ground in a specific position, (Which is hard to explain here), before taking the shot. I see WE, not the Canadians, now hold the World record for a kill at the longest distant, IIRC just over a mile. When you consider all the things that have to be considered to make a kill at that distance, it is remarkable. I think it will be a long time before that particular record will be broken.

I was taught to breathe out, and take the shot before breathing again, not hold a breath in.

Probably explains why I am such a poor marksman?

Jim to take a shot you need to breathe then hold it and fire, you can’t stop talking long enough to do that, so you’d miss LOL 🙂

Wasn’t it because the CEO of the Company had to let him go because he didn’t get on with fellow workers?, which, if he did have his weapon taken away would have been an infringement of the 2nd?as no misuse had been caused by him owning a weapon Bit late after the event though.

On the back of this interesting development which appears to challenge the right to bear arms, it is curious that none of the defenders of that right have made an appearance in an effort to justify why the ex journalist should have been allowed to own a weapon.

I have trouble going on a shooting spree with my flintlock, I’d have to ask people to wait a minute while I reload & then would probably miss anyway.

Quite – America seems to have gone quiet on the subject..
